Silkscreen with hand-altered stencil and drawing. 8.5 x 11 in, signed, 2022. This print is one-of-a-kind. The silkscreened image (in the second slide) is the background for an abstracted fiery being stenciled and drawn.
While at an art residency in Chautauqua, NY, I searched the digital archives for indigenous history of the area. I found very little. But I did find one image from Chautauqua Institution, that showed former residents posing as Native Americans in a so-called historical “pageant” staged to depict European settlers meeting Indigenous people. I created a silkscreen of the pageant photo (shown on second slide) and added my own stenciled figure over it.
